Which is to say: I have been staying up really late, not getting enough sleep, and not getting anything done, either. I slept from 1am to 6am last night, and it was no picnic. It takes all the running I can do just not to fall further behind.

I really seem to be doing my best to shoot myself in the foot. Although I have found a combination of over-the-counter stuff that allows me to slog through the workday, I have wasted another perfectly good afternoon doing stuff I should have done after supper:

making lists, copying video, blogging, typing poems up for the Goat... when will I learn? when will I ever learn?

And what did I do after supper? watched Layer Cake, a convoluted caper movie with the single redeeming feature that it features Daniel Craig, and shirtless much of the time. [Did I mention that he also wears leather?] "Ugly beautiful" gets me every time. The Goat is a little put out that I put him in that category; he'd rather skip the "ugly" part and get straight to "beautiful." It's useless trying to convince him that without it, we wouldn't be where we are, but there it is.

It's true I went shopping, got food for dinner, made lunch [2pm] and dinner [8:30pm], cleaned up, and dealt with the mail, but I am way behind on the financial info, and after a glass of wine, it's pretty much completely hopeless to try to do any of that stuff.

So I will have to actually stay on top of the afternoon tomorrow. Time is running out, and there is still the whole tax dance to do; to tell the honest truth [as opposed to that nasty other kind of truth], I have absolutely no idea where I will stand when the chips are down, but if I owe money, I am toast. Which, come to think of it, since I have a nasty cold and a temper to match, I already am. I have jobs looming that will eat up any spare time I might have wanted to spend doing necessary things like taxes, so I will be busy being paid less than I have in years to pay off a "favor" it turns out I didn't need. Some people just never learn.

I am grateful for favors large and little, as well as the innumerable blessings I have seen. Not the least of which is that my life, though it is a mess, is at least a mess in a good way... it has a Goat in it, and my kids are all doing pretty well, and all talking to me.

I'm all right. And I actually heard from Drew, and he's all right. Hot damn.

So, hang in there, all.
I'm thinking of you.

  1. We seem to be in the same boat these days. Taxes and work and kids. Grateful for all, yes even taxes if I have them I'm doing ok. Hang in there.

  2. “Time is free, but it's priceless. You can't own it, but you can use it. You can't keep it, but you can spend it. Once you've lost it you can never get it back.”

I glad you heard from Drew.
