NOT ART YET... II...

EMBRACES:
LOVE SONG OF THE INNER GIRL

Embraced, embraced at last! embraced at first
So gently, firmly, touch so nearly quiet,
Though quiet's just what those embraces banish.
Another gentle move: lips softy pursed
And stubbled cheek graze gently, firmly by it,
This neck. That cheek digs deep as if to vanish…
That cheek! This neck that never knew it yearned
For just that touch but, now, at once, has learned.

Lips lock; that sweet embrace is turned to grapplings
That meet and break and surge like some mad ocean,
Like maddened tides that care not for their course;
Now bending strength upon itself like saplings
Pulled down and held, all tense with coming motion;
Now pushing back, and glad, against such force.
Four arms in search of more than competition,
Wrapped tight, progress, position to position.

But best of all, in morning light and stillness,
The sweet return of firm and gentle motion:
Arms that surround and seek to own, to keep.
Within that circle, deep in heartfelt fullness,
A voice long silent makes her new devotion,
Surrendering exalts, sings joy from sleep.
What self is this that reaches back for skin
And makes a perfect paradise of sin?

Oh, give me more such mornings, such embraces,
Give me more tender waking, tender night!
Let me find joy in yielding and surrender,
If once, a hundred times, we find our faces,
Lock eyes and, smiling, set the world aright.
Let every morning, every night be tender!
Let morning slip away, permission granted,
While I lie kept, as I have always wanted.
